Spawn Magnets
Description: This work in about the cycle of life that occurs after the salmon spawn each year. The reference image I used was taken by myself in Squamish BC at the Stawamis River that flows at the foot of the Stawamis Chief Mountain. Although beautiful and tragic, salmon returning to the river beds of their birth to leave their own off spring which is followed by their own deaths, it is a symbol of the sacrifice they make to health of the forest and its other creatures. Their long journey home that is rife with struggle and dangerous difficulties, yet, as they exit the world they give their nutrients to the forest floor and to the river itself, as well as bears, carrion birds and other scavengers that feed off of their carcasses.
