Description: The fossils were exhumed from around a hundred wells inside the park. Work began at the beginning of the 20th century. In the 1940s and 1950s, the public was very fond of the unearthed fossils of mammals. In the 2000s, attention focused on insect and plant microfossils such as spores and pollen. These microfossils make it possible to reconstruct the paleoclimates and paleoenvironments of the Los Angeles Basin from the Pleistocene and in particular during the last glaciation.

Description: Big Bone Lick State Park, located in Kentucky’s North River Region, is a historic site known for its prehistoric fossils and natural salt lick. The park’s name originates from the salt-rich soil, which attracted animals for centuries, including mastodons and other Ice Age creatures. European explorers in the mid-1700s were astonished by the massive bones protruding from the ground, marking the site as a key location for American vertebrate paleontology
