Dime Mugs
Description: Life is like a hurricane! Join the wealthy Scrooge McDuck as he triumphantly holds his prized Number One Dime, completely unaware of the notorious Beagle Boys (6167, 76176, 167671) plotting right behind him. A fantastic retro design for vintage Disney comic book and DuckTales fans.
Description: Founded in 1962 by the F. W. Woolworth Company, Woolco was an American retail chain. Unlike Woolworth's five-and-dime stores, Woolco was a full-line discount department store, and the creation of the new format coincided with the expansion of suburbia. At its peak, Woolco had hundreds of stores in the US, as well as in Canada and the UK. Woolworth's flagship stores were still doing well, but the company wanted to tap into the growing discount department store market without diluting its dominant position in the variety store business. The first Woolco was located in Columbus, Ohio, and by 1966, there were 18 in the US, and nine in Canada with plans for 30 stores to be added per year.
Description: The January 1943 front cover of Dime Mystery Magazine (Volume 28, Number 2) showcases classic “weird menace” flair from pulp illustrator Milton Luros. In this dramatic scene, a wide-eyed auburn-haired woman in a bright yellow shirt finds herself face-to-bandaged-face with an Egyptian mummy, while the stone wall behind them proudly sports an ancient Egyptian figure—clearly enjoying the show.
Description: Honest Ed's was a landmark discount store in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was named for its proprietor, Ed Mirvish, who opened the store in 1948 and oversaw its operations for almost 60 years until his death in 2007. The store continued to operate until it closed on December 31, 2016. By 1968 the store was grossing $14 million annually and gained fame for its marketing stunts, including loss leader specials. Mirvish's annual turkey giveaway before Christmas always received a lot of attention, and the birthday parties he threw for himself became neighborhood events with free cake, hot dogs, candy, and giveaways.
