The Horse's all-female cast of booze slingers was known for entertaining feats including bar-top dancing, fire-blowing, and hula-hooping, all while serving cheap drinks. The Iron Horse had a full menu that included your typical bar fare, and if you went on a Sunday, burgers and hot dogs were on the house when you bought a drink.

Description: Located off West 166th Street in New York City's Bronx neighborhood, El Sol Bar was a popular local watering hole for decades. Despite appearances, this place wasn't just another dive bar, but a restaurant with a full kitchen giving Puerto Ricans a taste of home with authentic dishes like Alcapurrias and Arroz Con Dulce just like mom used to make.
Description: Founded in 1987 on North Carolina's Cape Fear, Teach's Tavern was a pirate-themed bar that played up the owner's (alleged) lineage shared with Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, the English pirate who operated around the West Indies and the eastern coast of Britain's North American colonies. The legend of Blackbeard and all pirate kitsch aside, Teach's Tavern was actually a pretty great spot that became known not only for the sunsets from their beachfront patio, but their surprisingly good tavern food which was all made from scratch in their on-site kitchen. Of course, there was no shortage of beers on tap and top-shelf cocktails, but a good number of their regulars were there for the PBR in cans and well drink specials.
Description: For nearly 50 years, the no-frills, all-business boozing destination in the heart of San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood has been a watering hole for all kinds of drinkers. From the topless portrait of the previous owner’s grandmother behind the bar and the doodled on dollar bill-covered walls to the stiff but cheap drinks and funky restrooms, High Tide Cocktails was a dive bar in every sense of the term. While the establishment changed hands over the years, the name and the divey ambiance remained, as did the revolving cast of mostly female Korean bartenders.
Description: Established in November 1966, The Black Cat Tavern was a gay bar located in Los Angeles, California's Silver Lake neighborhood. Two months later, on New Year's Eve, several plainclothes LAPD officers infiltrated the tavern. After arresting several patrons for kissing, the undercover officers began beating several revelers, ultimately arresting fourteen patrons for assault and public lewdness. With no resolve for those wrongfully attacked and arrested, a civil demonstration of over 200 people to protest the raids was held on February 11 outside The Black Cat Tavern. This was one of the first demonstrations in the U.S. protesting police brutality against members of the LGBT community, preceding the Stonewall riots by over two years.

Description: Flagstaff, Arizona's The Museum Club first opened as a taxidermy shop and showcase and had evolved into a nightclub by 1936. Housed inside what was once claimed to be the world's largest log cabin, The Museum Club was a dance hall, live music venue, and rowdy cowboy bar that served generations of patrons in Flagstaff. After more than 80-years, this roadside attraction had become an icon along the historic Route 66 Highway, attracting tourists and locals alike who were drawn in by its history as well as karaoke and dime beer nights. Known by locals as "The Zoo," the venue played host to live country music and line dancing, all of which took place under the watchful eyes of wildlife mounts. most of which have been there since day one.
Description: After returning to America in the 1950s from living abroad, Stephen Crane opened The Luau, a Polynesian-themed restaurant on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Quickly becoming a celebrity hotspot, the Luau was known for its innovative tiki decor and its high-profile customers. As the host and owner, Crane became a well-known name in the restaurant industry and tongue in cheek signed his menus as "STEFOOMA, High-Talking Chief of the Luau" in an attempt to keep up with the storied personas of Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic. Crane expanded his company, Stephen Crane Associates, which at one point included over a dozen different restaurants.
Description: Located in Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood, the Walrus Tavern was a legendary live music venue that hosted countless blues and rock 'n roll shows over the years. When it wasn't playing host to local bands and all-time great blues singers, the tavern was a true neighborhood watering hole, providing frosty libations and reliable tavern food. Unlike most places, the Walrus didn't close up shop for lack of customers or ever-increasing rents, rather it burned to the ground in 1984. The concrete pad it sat on remained vacant for decades until another bar opened up next door and annexed the Walrus pad as a beer garden, aptly named 'The Walrus Beer Garden.'
