Based on the 1968 HK Holden Kingswood, this beautifully styled coupe could be powered by the Holden straight six, or as in the GTS version, a Chevrolet 327 cubic inch V8 and four-speed manual transmission. With Ford winning the 1967 Bathurst 500 race with its first Falcon GT model (powered by a Mustang 289 cubic inch V8), Holden hit back by winning the 1968 enduro. And comfortably too: the first four placings were Monaro GTS, Monaro GTS, Monaro GTS, Monaro GTS. This was the first outright Bathurst 500/1000 win by Holden. Description: 1966 Valiant VC rear end. The VE Valiant was larger than any previous Valiant model. Styling was based on that of the US Dodge Dart and Plymouth Valiant models with no body panels carried over from the VC Valiant. While the styling from the A-pillar back was Australian-influenced, sheeting forward of the A-pillar and bonnet was that of the U.S. Dart/Valiant models with the exception of the grille which was convex on the Australian models as opposed to concave on the U.S. models. The VE Valiant was announced as the winner of the Wheels magazine Car of the Year award in January 1968.

Description: In August 1970, the first ultra-performance Torana, the GTR XU-1, was developed by Holden along with Harry Firth of the Holden Dealer Team for competition in popular Series Production touring car racing within Australia, as well as in off-road rallying and unique rallycross events. However, the highlight purpose of the Torana GTR XU-1 was to keep the Holden brand competitive against the larger and more powerful Ford Falcon GT-HO in the Hardie-Ferodo 500 (Bathurst) endurance race that some consider to be the jewel in the crown of Australian motorsport.
