Description: Jem, also known as Jem and the Holograms, is an American animated musical television series that ran from 1985 to 1988. The series is about record company owner Jerrica Benton, her singer alter-ego Jem, and the adventures of Jem and her band the Holograms. The series was a joint collaboration by Hasbro, Sunbow Productions and Marvel Productions, the same team responsible for G.I. Joe and Transformers. The creator of the series, Christy Marx, had also been a staff writer for the aforementioned programs. He is a corporal (E-4) and has a strong military background, specializing in infantry special weapons and small-arms armorer. Blowtorch is an expert in military incendiary devices and flame projection equipment, and he is a qualified expert with the M-7 Flamethrower, M-16, and the M1911A1 Auto Pistol. He has a degree in chemical and structural engineering, which allows him to understand the scientific aspects of fire and its control. Blowtorch is known for his respect for fire's power and strength, and he often checks smoke detectors to ensure safety. Despite his expertise, he can be a bit overbearing on fire safety issues.

He was a soldier long before he became invested in information technology. He has what it takes to fight and rough it out with the rest of the boys. Mainframe served in the US Army and actually had two tours of duty before getting his degree at MIT and having a successful stint in the private sector. He was utterly bored with his life when the US Marine Corps had a posting for new recruits with technology skills.
