Description: The Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth Number of views as of 20th November 2018 = 370. The 170 metre (560 foot) Spinnaker Tower, overlooking the water-front at Portsmouth (Hampshire, England) and visible from miles around. The Tower represents the shape of a spinnaker sail billowing in the wind, a design accomplished using two large, white, sweeping steel arcs, which give the tower its unusual, yet striking appearance. The Tower is the centre-piece of the Portsmouth harbour redevelopment project, which has transformed the area, and also includes the popular Gunwharf Quays shopping centre. Date: 2nd January 2012. Description: The Pagoda at Kew Number of views as of 22nd May 2019 = 2810. The famous pagoda at Kew Gardens (London, England) stands (163 feet) high and was completed in 1762. At that time, it was the tallest reconstruction of a Chinese building in Europe. Kew's Pagoda dares to be different, in that purists apparently argue that pagodas should always have an odd number of floors. This one has ten. Each successive, octagonal floor from the first to the topmost is1 foot (30 cm) less in diameter and height than the preceding one. The original building was very colourful; the roofs being covered with varnished iron plates, with a dragon on each corner. Description: Crocus Cluster Number of views as of 9th October 2018 = 460. A sure sign of springtime, the humble crocus (plural crocuses or croci) is common in coastal and sub-alpine areas of central and southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, and across Central Asia to western China. There are about 80 species, mostly hardy perennials, they grow from 'corms' and are part of the iris family (Iridaceae). They come in various colours, although lilac, mauve, yellow and white are the most common. Interesting fact: the spice saffron is obtained from the stigmas of Crocus sativus, an autumn/fall-blooming species. These croci were photographed in Bournemouth Gardens, Dorset, England.
