Description: Roc-A-Fella Records was founded in 1994 by a group of a group of New York City artists, record executives, and entrepreneurs as a startup hip hop record label. The drive to start the new label began after one of Roc-A-Fella's founding artists had been rejected by major record labels, so the new independent label was used to launch the rapper's debut album. The label quickly proved to be successful and would put out over 50 releases ranging from rap, hip-hop, R&B, and soundtracks before the label's closure in 2013.
Description: "Founded in 1987 by rapper Eric Wright (Eazy-E) and music industry manager Jerry Heller, Ruthless Records revolutionized the hip hop scene. As the home to groundbreaking gangsta rap artists, the label played a pivotal role in transforming West Coast hip hop from niche appeal to mainstream cultural phenomenon."
