Description: Tartan is particularly associated with Scotland. Scottish kilts almost always have tartan patterns. Its length is almost twice the height of the wearer (about twice the distance from the ground to the wearer's shoulder). Plaids are any crisscross patterns of two or more colors. Tartans are plaids with a name to identify a community or family. Checks are plaids with a regular pattern, usually of only two colors. Plaid sometimes describes the crisscross pattern of tartans or similar.
