You smile, shake hands, and continue the conversation as if everything is perfectly under control. 2 minutes later, you’re searching for clues, hoping someone else says the name before you have to use it. Then comes the worst part: seeing the same person again and realizing you now know everything about them except what they’re called. You remember where you met, what they were wearing, what they talked about, and possibly their entire coffee order, but their name has completely vanished. At that point, you start using carefully chosen sentences that allow you to avoid saying it altogether.
