Description: In May of 1983 At Caesars Palace in May 1983, two men walked into the ring for a non-title super-featherweight contest shrouded in courtroom squabbles, promoter politics, and the uncertainty of whether it would even take place. What followed was a savage, sprawling battle that has since been etched into boxing folklore. Bobby Chacon, officially the WBC champion but unable to defend his crown due to legal wrangling with Don King, met his old rival Cornelius Boza Edwards, the Ugandan southpaw ranked the organisation’s leading contender. Three days before the fight, a Los Angeles judge attempted to halt proceedings with an injunction, only for a California appellate panel to overturn it hours later.
Description: Julio César Chávez had an undefeated record of 68–0 with 55 wins by knockout and had won world championships in three weight classes: super featherweight, lightweight and, the previous year against Roger Mayweather, the WBC light welterweight title. Meldrick Taylor had won, at only 17 years, a gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He also had an undefeated professional record and had won the IBF light welterweight title in 1988 from Buddy McGirt. This fight was the third title defense for both boxers and a unification fight of the WBC and IBF title. The fight took place only one month after Mike Tyson's upset loss to James "Buster" Douglas.
Description: "Rafael 'Bazooka' Limon of Mexico, trailing on all three judges' scorecards, landed 13 unanswered punches to knock out Rolando Navarrete at 3:10 of the 12th round Saturday and regain his WBC junior lightweight championship. Limon started his barrage in the waning seconds of the 12th round. A left by the southpaw from Mexico City backed Navarrete, who now lives in Honolulu, into a neutral corner. Two right-left combinations kept Navarrete penned in and from there Limon landed four rights and three lefts to the head. The last left sent Navarrete to the canvas as the bell rung and referee Joey Curtis then counted him out."
