Turtle's Records and Tapes was an Atlanta based southern US record store chain that specialized in cassettes, vinyl, and concert tickets and later it rented movies in VHS format. This was the first shirt I designed in 2005. Hot Topic bought it that year (like way too many), and I stopped printing them in 2009. So here it is again, back from the dead. Coming at you from over a decade ago.

Look-alikes. One is deadly.

Artwork of classic American record (45 rpm) labels of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Retro, colorful, and full of awesome music.

A burst of color in the pattern of the old school vinyl 45 adapters that were ubiquitous in every teenager's bedroom from the 1960s to the 1980s and are now all but forgotten. A symetrical triskelion design snapped into the larger hole of the 45 singles that made them usable on the 33.3 rpm turntables.

This is a symbol of the 45 record adapter that allowed for play on 33" record players. If there is an "official" DJ symbol, then this record adapter is that symbol. Power Records released a series of Planet of the Apes stories using their 'Book & Record' format in 1974, each of which covered one of the four films that had been released at the time. Like other Book & Record offerings, the sets included a 45 rpm record and a comic book. The record narrated the comic through sound effects, audio dialogue, and a backing soundtrack. In addition to the 45 rpm versions, a 12" 33 rpm compilation record combining all four Arthur P. Jacobs films adapted by Power Records. Like other Power Records' Book & Record sets, the Planet of the Apes are highly desirable collectables, not just due to their pop culture value, but because complete sets with both the record and comic are hard to come by.
