The 44th Medical Brigade deployed to Vietnam in April 1966, where it participated in 15 of the 17 campaigns in which US Forces were involved. These campaigns included Counteroffensives Phase I-VII, Tet Counteroffensive, Tet 69 Counteroffensive, Summer-Fall 69, Winter-Spring 70, Sanctuary Counteroffensive, Consolidation I and II, and Cease Fire. The 3d Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (3d MEB) was a United States Army brigade located at Fort Richardson, Alaska. The 3d MEB was one of three active duty Maneuver Enhancement Brigades. The Brigade was tasked to improve the movement capabilities and rear area security for commanders at division level or higher. It was inactivated in 2011 and replaced by the 2d Engineer Brigade.

The173rd Abn Brigade had assumed the mission of "pacification" of the Bong Son plains Company N (Ranger), 75th Infantry would become a Ranger screen while the Brigade was on pacification. The TO&E specified that the November Rangers would consist of 3 officers and 72 enlisted personnel. Missions for the Ranger company were typically 3 -5 days with a 2 day break in between for debriefing, rest and preparation for the next mission.
