This vintage design is loosely inspired by Samuel Leigh's "Urania’s Mirror", a boxed set of 32 constellation cards first published in November 1824. In Greek mythology, Auriga is often identified as the mythological Greek hero Erichthonius of Athens, the chthonic son of Hephaestus who was raised by the goddess Athena. Erichthonius was generally credited to be the inventor of the quadriga, the four-horse chariot, which he used in the battle against the usurper Amphictyon, the event that made Erichthonius the king of Athens.

Vintage illustration astronomy and antique celestial star chart featuring the constellations of Bootes, Canes Venatici, Coma Berenices and Quadrans Muralis. Bootes means, herdsman, plowman or ox driver. Canes Venatici means 'hunting dogs' and they belong to Boötes. Coma Berenices means 'Berenice's Hair' and refers to Queen Berenice II of Egypt, who sacrificed her long hair as a votive offering. Quadrans Muralis is a navigational tool used to calculate various readings, such as longitude, latitude, and time of day.
