Description: The Motocross des Nations is an annual motocross race held since 1947. Great Britain, Belgium, and Sweden dominated the racing series in the early days, but just like the "Miracle on Ice" shocked the hockey world in 1980, the U.S. team turned motocross upside down at the 1981 des Nations event. The U.S. had never won or even come close to winning, and with such a bad record, assembling riders for a team was tough to say the least. It was so tough, that the U.S. didn't even send teams in '79 and '80. 1981 was a different story, as America showed up, and when the flag dropped, Team U.S.A. shocked the racing world as they won Trophée des Nations. The 1981 event was the start of a winning streak at des Nations that lasted until 1994.

Description: If you grew up riding motorcycles in Southern California in the 1970s and ’80s, you probably remember Indian Dunes. “The Dunes,” as it was known to regulars, was a motorcycle off-road playground located in Valencia, that opened up in 1970 out on Highway 126 in what at the time seemed like the boonies. The 600-acre park had a larger purpose which was to play host to Hollywood studios as a versatile backdrop for all kinds of film and television projects, including what would be the Dukes of Hazzard's most death-defying jump of all time. Of course, most folks remember it as the place to head out with your buddies to ride dirt bikes and dune buggies, or even to take in organized motocross racing events.

Description: Born and raised in Amherst, Ohio, John Penton was one of the most influential figures in the development of off-road motorcycle racing in America during the '60s and ‘70s. As a national champion rider, Penton went on to develop a legendary brand of off-road motorcycles that bore his name and defined an industry. His innovations were not reserved exclusively for the manufacture of motorcycles, however. Wanting to improve on the standard work boot that most off-road riders wore in the early days of motocross, He approached an Italian ski boot maker about modifying their boots for motorcycle use. The result was his groundbreaking 'Hi-Point' boots that would later be made by his second company, Hi-Point Racing Products.
Description: The Blackwater 100 is a motocross race unlike any other, and one that is still known as the toughest race of all time. It started in the streets of Davis, West Virginia, and took riders out of town to wander through rivers, mountains, swamps and fields. Riders had to muscle through seemingly unending swamp sections, bottomless mudholes, squared shale hill climbs, steep rocky downhills and some of the tightest forest trails on earth. After all of that, riders hit the worst obstacle of all - the Highway 93 river crossing - before seeing the scoring barrels back in town. At this point, a nice young lady checked off his number, and then told him he’s completed only 20 miles and sent him back out to do four more laps. Sounds grueling? It was.
