Description: Founded in Sunnyvale, California during the early '80s, Cyberdyne Systems' products were primarily computer processors, but also made small components for larger manufacturers in the tech industry. A T-800 Terminator, which was sent from the future and designed to kill humans, was crushed in one of the hydraulic presses in Cyberdyne's factory. From the Terminator's wreckage, the company was able to procure future tech by way of it's CPU chip and nearly complete arm segment. The advanced technology from these elements were reverse engineered, rapidly accelerating Cyberdyne Systems into the future, suddenly making them a major player in cutting-edge tech.

Description: After finding that computer game publishers were not interested in his first game, war game enthusiast Joel Billings launched his own company to publish and distribute his computer titles in 1979. Calling his new venture Strategic Simulations, Inc. (SSI), it didn't take long before Billings' company was the dominant force in computer war games. Throughout the '80s and into the early 1990s, SSI was holding its own against the publishers that once turned down Billings' games. The mid-'80s saw SSI began licensing properties to be used as new computer war game titles. SSI was acquired in 1994, spent time as part of a toy company, and finally became part of a larger game house that ended up by retiring the brand name a few years later.
Description: If you’re old enough to remember BonziBuddy, you may recall that he was one of the web's early virtual assistants (think Clippy, but for browsing the web). BonziBuddy's virtual desktop assistant featured an on-screen avatar of a talking purple gorilla that could interact with its users and run simple utility services like text-to-speech and finding online shopping deals. Released in 1999, the application was actually pretty impressive for the time, and garnered notoriety for its early forays into what we now know as targeted advertising. This early personalizing of ad content was more akin to spyware, adware, and scareware than anything, so it's not surprising that the developer faced several lawsuits and fines from the FTC.

Description: The Dungeonmaster is a gleefully bizarre example of a sci-fi/fantasy anthology film that refuses to play by its own rules. Divided into seven distinct story segments, each written and directed by a different person, it’s disjointed, and often incomprehensible, but full of imagination. The story is about a demonic wizard who challenges a modern-day computer programmer to a battle of technology vs. sorcery, with the programmer's girlfriend as the prize. The film features an appearance by the heavy metal band W.A.S.P. and is largely known by cinephiles for the line of dialogue "I reject your reality and I substitute my own." Filming began in 1983, but the film was shot and edited in 1988, but never completed.
