Description: The symbol on Ralph's uniform resembles the Chinese character for "center" ㊥. As the symbol is red in color with white background, Hong Kong television station TVB termed the Cantonese-dubbed version of the show (飛天紅中俠), translated to mean "Flying Red Center Hero", in reference to the red Center tile in Mahjong tiles.
Description: Tank were one of the promising NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) bands to find their place on the filthier end of the spectrum. Comparisons to Motörhead are obvious as far as the band's blues driven, roadhouse swagger, though their slightly higher pitched vocals set them apart. Filth Hounds of Hades was their debut album and without question, their absolute best effort. The band grew a little more commercial with later releases, something that sadly didn't end up working in their favor.
Description: The Haçienda FAC 51 opened in Manchester on May 21st 1982. The impact it had on the world will never be rivalled. Only Tony Wilson was the real believer. And, it is thanks to that legend of a man that The Haçienda came to be. I was lucky enough to be an employee at The Haçienda for some years. I remember a place by some steps that had these 3 neon lights on a small blue wall. They looked very much like this as I remember. This is my ode to The Haçienda.
Description: Long before streaming was a thing, you had to hunt and peck for hard to find movies on VHS, especially those in the horror genre. If you were lucky, you had a mom and pop video store that shared an interest in obscure cinema and carried stuff that the chain video rental places didn't. For most of us, this meant finding a VHS mail order business. A subsidiary of Los Angeles based adult film distributor, Select-a-Tape, Midnight Video specialized in low-budget exploitation horror films in stylish VHS display packaging. They sold through mail order ads in the back of horror magazines and comic books. Cinephiles would check off the boxes next to the titles they wanted, write a check, and then send off their order.
Description: BMX began during the early '70s as kids inspired by motocross racers began racing their bicycles on dirt tracks in southern California. In 1974, the National Bicycle League formed as a BMX sanctioning organization and regular organized races began to come together. As BMX racing began to reach a fever pitch, Bob Osborn and Wizard Publications launched Bicycle Motocross Action Magazine in 1976. The new mag would quickly become known as the BMX bible, tracking the races, points, events, riders, and of course, the latest in BMX bikes and equipment. The name was changed to BMX Action in 1982 and the publication continued to run until 1989 at which point it was combined with Freestylin' Magazine to become 'Go' which ran until 1992.
