Description: The Shinra Electric Power Company (commonly known as Shinra) is the primary antagonistic megacorporation in Final Fantasy VII. Originally a small weapons manufacturer, Shinra grew into a dominant, authoritarian world government after discovering how to harvest and process Mako, the planet’s spiritual life force, into cheap electrical energy and material goods. Operating out of the massive, dystopian metropolis of Midgar, the company maintains its global monopoly through brutal corporate warfare, scientific experimentation—such as creating the elite military unit SOLDIER—and complete control over the media and infrastructure.
