Description: Sankofa is often expressed in the Akan language as "sewo were fi nawo sankofa a yenkyi". Which means it is not an abomination to return and take what you forgot. Sankofa teaches that to record successes and move forward, we have to return to our roots. In other words, Sankofa translates to gathering good lessons learned in our past and using them to achieve future goals.
Description: This digital piece combines traditional African elements with futuristic imagery to convey a message of hope, empowerment, and self-determination through Afrofuturism. At the center of the artwork, you will find a prominent figure of a Black woman wearing a traditional African headdress. She stands boldly against a glowing orange sun backdrop, with an expression of resilience on her face. The woman is depicted in profile, with her long hair flowing down to her right shoulder. In her hands, she holds a light pink circle in her right hand and a light blue triangle in her left hand. These symbols represent different aspects of hope and possibility.
Description: "Gye Nyame" means “Except God” in the Akan language. It expresses the omnipotence and supremacy of God in all affairs. "Gye Nyame" is arguably the most popular Adinkra symbol. It expresses the deep faith the Akans have in the Supreme Being, called by many names and titles including Onyame (Nyame), Onyankopɔn, Twereduampɔn (the reliable one), and many others.
