Description: The American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis), sometimes referred to colloquially as a gator or common alligator, is a large crocodilian reptile native to the Southeastern United States. It is one of the two extant species in the genus Alligator, and is larger than the only other living alligator species, the Chinese alligator.
Description: This is my watercolor and ink painting that was inspired by me to paint from my many trips through the swampy regions of the southern states. This alligator is staged on the banks of the Louisiana swamp at sundown. A vibrant scene showcases an alligator basking near a body of water, set against a backdrop of trees with sunlight peeking through.
