Description: Rollin’ Rooms Van and Custom of San Bernardino was a preeminent custom van builder that was on the front end of the custom street van craze of the '70s. From mild to wild, Rollin’ Rooms turned out some of the era’s most amazing vans, while also applying their trade to a few custom cars and motorcycles. This design celebrates a time when tricked out vans ruled the streets and includes a tricked out van and vanner girl on roller skates along with bitchin’ retro typography and simulated metal flake paintwork.
Description: Frank McGurk was a race car driver in the '30s and '40s, but had so many innovative ideas for pulling more performance out of engines, he became an engineer to implement them himself. While his work started earlier after his service during WWII, he formally founded McGurk Engineering in 1950 in Gardena, California. Designing everything from cams and manifolds to heads and rocker assemblies, McGurk was a talented engineer who specialized in small block V8 and inline 6 bow tie mills, the latter of which were extremely popular with sprint car racers, while the V8s were the hot ticket for drag racers and hot rodders. McGurk worked until 1969 when he sold the company, but remained active in the racing community until is death in 1982.
Description: As an avid dry lakes racer, Paul Schiefer developed his own clutches and flywheels that could take the abuse involved in propelling his racers to increasingly higher top speeds. He set up shop in 1947 and began manufacturing his clutches and flywheels for his fellow dry lakes enthusiasts and as word got out, his products became popular in other motorsports well. By 1956 Schiefer was mass-producing explosion-proof clutches which quickly became the clutch of choice for hardcore drag racers and by the mid-'60’s, the company had become the single largest manufacturer of specialty racing drive train components in the world.
Description: Like a lot of people in post-war America, Al Jerauld was an avid hot rodder looking for go fast thrills. He opened Jerauld's Speed Shop in the late '40s in National City, California. From catalog speed parts to many of his own creation, Jerauld's Speed Shop was the go-to spot in the San Diego area for go fast goodies. When he wasn't selling parts and installing them on customer cars, Al was a dry lakes racer who built and campaigned several cars over the years. One such lakester was the infamous Baby Bomb, which sported a destroked and sleeved '37 V8-60 Flathead with a tiny 88.75 cubic inch displacement that managed to turn some impressive speeds. Among Jerauld's many custom designed performance parts, many are still highly prized today.
Description: Founded by Tony Anderson and Paul Wexler in the mid '40s, A&W Bearing Service was a Seattle machine shop specializing in babbitt bearings. While now largely obsolete, Babbitt bearings were a custom bearing made from babbitt metal that was common in just about every pre-war automobile engine. While the shop started out doing basic replacements, as post war hot rod culture and drag racing took off, A&W got into doing more performance oriented work, including complete race balancing, which involved meticulously balancing a crankshaft, pistons, push rods, and other components to optimize performance. A&W continued to be the go to shop for old school machine work in the Pacific Northwest, including babbitt bearings, into the early 2000s.
