Description: Remembering the great Filene’s Department Store. Filene's was an American department store chain founded by William Filene in 1881. The former Filene's flagship store at Downtown Crossing in Boston is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The success of the original full-line store in Boston, Massachusetts was supplemented by its off-price sister store Filene's Basement in 1908. Filene’s Basement became a much-visited tourist attraction. Starting in 1947, the Boston flagship store held an annual one-day bridal gown sale which was dubbed The Running of the Brides.
