Casablanca Socks
Description: In December 1941, American expatriate Rick Blaine owns a nightclub and gambling den in Casablanca. "Rick's Café Américain" attracts a varied clientele, including Vichy French and German officials, refugees desperate to reach the neutral United States, and those who prey on them. Although Rick professes to be neutral in all matters, he ran guns to Ethiopia during the Second Italo-Ethiopian War and fought on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War.

Description: Ah, Casablanca. Due to Ilsa & Rick's obvious deeply important connection to France, I laid out this piece to be an abstract depiction of the French flag - blue, white, red, left to right. For the background, I used something that appears on the surface to be merely decorative but is actually an extremely important element of the story; true Casablanca aficionados will notice the background was based on the ornate design on the piano Sam plays in Rick's Café Américain. The result is one of my favorite works to date.
Description: Casablanca - "We'll always have Paris" is a famous line from the movie Casablanca. It's spoken by Humphrey Bogart to Ingrid Bergman, referring to their past love affair in Paris during a happier time. The phrase signifies a cherished memory that can be revisited even when the present is difficult or uncertain.
