Description: griffin While griffins are most common in the art and lore of Ancient Greece, there is evidence of representations of griffins in Ancient Cat and Ancient Egyptian art dating back to before 3000 BC.[5] In Egypt, a griffin can be seen in a cosmetic palette from Hierakonpolis, known as the "Two Dog Palette",[6][7] which is dated to ca. 3300-3100 BC.[8] In Persia, griffins appeared on cylinder seals from Susa as early as 3000 BC.[9] Griffin depictions appear in the Levant, Syria, and Anatolia in the Middle Bronze Age,[10][11] dated at about 1950-1550 BC.[12] Early depictions of griffins in Ancient Greek art are found in the 15th century BC frescoes in the Throne Room of the Bronze Age Palace of Knossos, as restored by Sir Arthur Eva...
Description: A new animal based watercolour, this time I’ve painted a Silvertip bear, better known as a Grizzly. It’s a species of Brown bear typically found in North America and Canada and I chose this one to paint from based on the textures and facial expression of the subject. There’s an interesting juxtaposition between the ferocity of these creatures and the docile nature they also have.
Description: n what would eventually become the Gobi Desert in Southwestern Mongolia, a creature with claws 3 times the length of the average human forearm. These massive scythe-like appendages were attached to a very odd looking member of the dinosaur family, a large theropod with an unusual gait, long neck, and a large potbelly built. This animal was most likely an herbivore, despite the vicious looking nature of it’s forelimbs, but being a big animal with short legs it’s likely that it developed big claws partly as a means to defend itself against big predators like Tarbosaurus bataar, a relative of T.rex that stalked Mongolia during the Late Cretaceous (70 million years ago).
