Hans Gruber made a fake demand to the United States government for the leaders of the organizations to be released (along with members of the New Provo Front in Northern Ireland and the Liberte de Quebec in Canada) as a way to get the FBI involved. Hans states he read about the Asian Dawn in Time Magazine. The Asian Dawn is based off real life radical organization The Tamil Tigers.
