These are dark mayflies that are usually the first large mayfly hatch of the season. This classic pattern is popular year after year, and tied in various dark shades depending on the area. It is still used since it was originally tied in 1916, by Roy Steenrod, and remains very popular today. Originally used in the Catskills, this pattern is very effective in most trout waters in the U.S. and in other countries The Dark Hendrickson Dry Fly is painted in Gouache watercolor, and is a print from my original.
