Description: This is an image of the castle on the tidal island of Lindisfarne (Holy Island), which sits off the coast of Northumberland. The island has had a turbulent past with raids by the Vikings and being in the volatile "Borders" region between England and Scotland. Access to the island is via a causeway that floods twice a day, so you have to time your visit accordingly. The approach to the castle is quite dramatic as the mound upon which it sits is the highest point on an otherwise very flat landscape. We were told that the rocky outcrop was all that remains of a long extinct volcano. Being so elevated, it offered a strategic advantage to those who might have defended it. Description: n 1881, the first Foden traction engine was built in Sandbach. Then in 1898, Edwin Richard Foden influenced future truck design by designing the first steam wagon running on steel tyre wheels which had been successful until 1913 when vulcanised solid rubber tyre development had advanced to the stage of allowing their fitment on heavy vehicles. Edwin introduced the first pneumatic tyred Foden steam wagon, but as steam transport appeared to be going out of favour, Edwin turned his attention to the development of a 6 to 8 ton chassis fitted with new Gardner LW (Light Weight) high speed oil engine.
Description: Edwin was doodling in his sketchbook when he suddenly found himself transported to a steampunk alternate dimension. He was glad to have his illustrations with him, but they quickly came to life and started attacking him! Luckily, he had brought along his pen and was able to fight them off. As he drew a door on the page, he was relieved to find himself back in his own room. But then he realized that his cat was now a steampunk robot.
