Description: During Prohibition, moonshine production skyrocketed. The spirits were made under the light of the moon, in hopes that no one would detect smoke from the stills, a practice that earned the booze its name moonshine. These distilleries used runners who could smuggle moonshine from the stills to customers across the region. On the outside, the runner cars looked stock to avoid attention, but on the inside high-powered engines and heavy-duty suspensions that would give them the edge in outrunning law enforcement. These runners and their souped up cars would eventually be raced and lead to what we all know as modern stock car racing today. This Moonshine Express design comes from the '70s, when a moonshine running experienced a resurgence.
