Description: The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom is an American tandem two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor and fighter-bomber originally developed by McDonnell Aircraft for the United States Navy. Proving highly adaptable, it first entered service with the Navy in 1961[3] before it was adopted by the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force, and by the mid-1960s it had become a major part of their air arms.[4] Phantom production ran from 1958 to 1981 with a total of 5,195 aircraft built, making it the most produced American supersonic military aircraft in history, and cementing its position as an iconic combat aircraft of the Cold War.
Description: The F-101B was a fighter used by the United States Air Force during the 50's and 60's as a long-range interceptor. The last "Voodoo" was retired from service during the 1980's. Build by the McDonnell Aircraft Company, in St. Louis, Missouri, the aircraft carried nuclear-tipped missiles or rockets and could climb as fast as 36,500 feet per minute. Crews flying the "Voodoo" set numerous records, including a transcontinental speed record in which it flew coast-to-coast (Los Angeles to New York, and back) in six hours and 46 minutes. The "A" model set an absolute speed record of 1,207.6 MPH and, due to its speed, pilots nicknamed the plane the "One-O-Wonder".
Description: The majority of the 2nd Armored Divisio was based at Fort Hood Texas. The division remained on active service during the Cold War. Its primary mission was to prepare to conduct heavy armored combat against Warsaw Pact forces in defense of NATO. The division formed a key component of the U.S. military's plan to move 'ten divisions in ten days" to Europe in the event of a Soviet threat to NATO. The division practiced this task numerous times during Exercise Reforger from 1967 to 1988. To build and maintain combat skills, the division's maneuver brigades deployed almost annually to the National Training Center to face an opposing force modeling Soviet military weapons and tactics.
