Description: A Hand of Glory is the dried and pickled hand of a male person who has been hanged, often specified as being the left hand, or, if the man was hanged for murder, the hand that did the deed. Hand of Glory combined with a candle made from fat from the corpse of the same malefactor who died on the gallows would have rendered motionless all persons to whom it was presented. It is a fascinating and macabre historical practice that has inspired a lot of 19th century stories. I have shown the hand of glory with a cute little red snake wrapped around it and an eyeball in the palm. I do enjoy drawing eyeballs... This design was hand drawn, ink on paper, and finished digitally.
