Gold Pattern Socks
Description: The technique, also spelled kintugi, translates as “golden joinery” and is the fascinating Japanese craft of using lacquer and metal to rejoin and repair a broken ceramic item. It is also referred to as kintsukuroi or “golden repair.” The process differs from other artistic restoration techniques in that visibility–or invisibility–of repair is not a concern. In fact, kintsugi restorations are so obvious that they can be considered nothing less than celebrations of use.
Description: This artwork is part of my series of “new breed” dogs — silhouettes I’ve cut into four parts and puzzled back together, celebrating the joy of mixed breeds. The design you see here is based on one of my original paintings, featuring the Blue Tongue, a native Australian plant that comes in many beautiful colours. Just like the plants that inspired it, this piece is about variety, resilience, and uniqueness. Every mixed breed dog is healthy, happy, and full of personality — and I wanted that same spirit to shine through in this abstract botanical silhouette.

The largest gold nugget found was the Welcome Stranger.
