Description: Jack Torrance is the central antagonist of Stephen King's 1977 horror novel The Shining and its acclaimed 1980 film adaptation directed by Stanley Kubrick. He also appears in the 1997 television miniseries, and serves as one of the two posthumous overarching antagonists—alongside the Overlook Hotel—in the sequel novel Doctor Sleep and its 2019 film adaptation. A once-aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic, Jack’s descent into madness while isolated at the haunted Overlook Hotel has become one of the most iconic narratives in horror. His character is also referenced across the broader Stephen King universe, appearing posthumously in Doctor Sleep, and being mentioned in the Castle Rock series and as a posthumous character in Misery.
Description: The Whitechapel Vigilance Committee design commemorates the creation of the volunteer group that patrolled the streets of Whitechapel at night during 1888 in the hopes of catching the elusive serial killer known as Jack The Ripper. The committee was set up by local businessmen who were concerned that the killings were affecting commerce in the area. It was led by George Lusk, a local builder who was elected chairman during the committee's first meeting on 10 September 1888.
