Description: The Fujiwara clan (藤原), was a powerful family of regents in Japan. The clan originated when the founder, Nakatomi no Kamatari (614–669), was rewarded by Emperor Tenji with the honorific “Fujiwara”, which evolved as a surname for Kamatari and his descendants. In time, Fujiwara became known as a clan name. The Fujiwara dominated the Japanese politics of Heian period (794–1185) through the monopoly of regent positions, sesshō and kampaku.The Fujiwara were one of four great clans that dominated Japanese politics during the Heian period, the other three were the Minamoto, the Taira, and the Tachibana. This is the kamon (family crest) of the Fujiwara clan, Sagari Fuji (下り藤) or “Hanging Wisteria”. Below the crest is “Fujiwara” in kanji.

Description: The Otani clan was a feudal Japanese samurai clan from Mutsu Province, the most famous head of the clan was Otani Yoshitsugu.Yoshitsugu was a loyal retainer of Hideyoshi Hashiba and Mitsunari Ishida, and was aligned with the Toyotomi clan during the Sekigahara Campaign. Yoshitsugu was killed and the clan destroyed in the 1600 Battle of Sekigahara. This is the kamon (family crest) of the Otani clan, Mukai Cho (向い蝶) or “Facing Butterflies”. Description: Yoshitsune “義経”, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, one of the greatest and the most popular warriors in the late Heian and early Kamakura periods, and also considered as one of the most famous samurai fighters in the history of Japan. Kamakura God of War “鎌倉戰神” is the praise given to Yoshitsune for his great achievement in military and bravery in battle. The Overlord of Southern Sea (南海覇主) is referring to his success in conquering the whole Shikoku, which is also one of the Seven Circuits in Japan at the time, the Nankaido (Southern sea circuit).
