Description: “A great and powerful nation shall emerge. Genesis 18:18 (top.)” “One million in Israel…on to the second million. Keren Hayesod, for Aliyah and absorption.” (Hebrew.) Poster, circa 1947, published by Keren Hayesod (United Israel Appeal Foundation Fund.) Designed by Ernst Mechner. Public domain, via PPPA. Graphic designer, Ernst Mechner (1895-1956,) was born in Germany. After making Aliyah, he produced informational and fundraising posters for Keren Hayesod, JNF, Histadrut, and others. The posters encouraged Aliyah (immigration) and Jewish population growth. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.
