Description: Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains is a 1982 film that sees the media and disaffected teens mistake the acerbic rants of an obnoxious teenage punk rocker as a rallying cry for the women of America, launching her and her talentless punk band, The Stains, to national stardom. The Stains are depicted suffering the derision of male audiences and peers, but their dedication—and the fiery public persona of lead singer Corinne Burns—gains them a strong female fan base that ultimately eclipses their antagonists. The closing scene is a triumphant professional music video, indicating that the band had finally achieved rock stardom.
Description: Germfree Adolescents is the 1978 debut album of English punk rock band X-Ray Spex, one of the most original groups in British punk. With tuneful, saxophone-driven songs and strident vocals from Poly Styrene, the songs were guitar-driven punk-pop that combined outrage and aggression with a sense of alienation and disenfranchisement. It contained the UK hit singles "The Day the World Turned Dayglo" (No. 23 in April 1978), "Identity" (No. 24 in July 1978), and "Germ Free Adolescents," which reached No. 18 in November 1978. Art-I-Ficial is the first track on the record, and one about rampant commercialism and an increasingly sterile and artificial world, making this store shelf design a perfect reflection of modern consumer society.
Description: "Warsaw" is the opening song by Joy Division on their An Ideal for Living EP. It was slated for release on the album that became Warsaw, which was originally scrapped by the band and not released until 1994. The song is available on a number of compilations, including Substance. The song appears to be a somewhat fantastical biography of Rudolf Hess, Hitler's Deputy Führer, who flew to Great Britain in 1941 in an attempt to negotiate a peace between Germany and the UK, supposedly because of his disillusionment with National Socialism. At a performance of the song "At a Later Date" at the Electric Circus in Manchester, Guitarist Bernard Sumner shouts "You all forgot Rudolph Hess" before the song begins.
