Description: The first of possibly many paintings in a series of Gothic Western pieces. I originally started this piece months ago, only just now finding the time to finish it off. For this piece I focused more on mark making than composition, my aim being to experiment with scratching paint away, heavy applications versus thin applications, texture techniques and ways of conveying interesting light sources. In summary it was a chance to experiment with what I can do with paint and learning new texture making techniques. More than anything I wanted to get the background right (which should really be the last priority), but creating a grimey background whilst still being saturated with light and colour was one of my main goals.

Description: Bananas are believed to have originated up to 10,000 years ago and some scientists believe they may have been the world’s first fruit. The first bananas are thought to have grown in the region that includes the Malaya Peninsula, Indonesia, the Philippines and New Guinea. Bananas as we know them began to be developed in Africa about 650 AD. There was a cross breeding of two varieties of wild bananas, the Musa Acuminata and the Musa Baalbisiana. From this process, some bananas became seedless and more like the bananas we eat today.
