Description: The Detroit Stars were an American baseball team in the Negro leagues and played at historic Mack Park. The Stars had winning seasons every year but two, but were never able to secure any championships. Among their best players was Baseball Hall of Famer Turkey Stearnes. Founded in 1919 by Tenny Blount with the help of Rube Foster, owner and manager of the Chicago American Giants, the Detroit Stars immediately established themselves as one of the most powerful teams in the West.
Description: After a few games, the Maulers decided their helmet logo didn't stand out enough on tv, so they outlined the Mauler guy! And, they brightened up the orange. They also simplified the "MAULERS" wordmark in many cases to make it simpler to reproduce. This is what their updated pennant graphics likely would have looked like, had one ever been printed!
Description: No design flaw here! Built in 1975, the Hartford Civic Center seated 10,507 for hockey, and served as the home of the (then) New England Whalers. In the early morning on January 18, 1978, the weight of the snow from a heavy storm coupled with a faulty roof design caused the Civic Center roof to collapse. There were no injuries. The building was heavily renovated and re-opened January 1980. In December 2007, the Center was renamed when the arena's naming rights were sold to XL Group insurance company.
