The Elder Socks
Description: My passion for type and design has never diminished. Once, while hearing my friend singher twin baby boys to sleep with ‘One Hundred Bottles of Beer On the Wall’ – which is another story – a vision came to me: I would paint 100 bottles of beer and put them on a wall! I have committed several of my sketchbooks to this undertaking, and have been posting the bottles, as they emerge, on my Facebook page, where folks are eager to opine on what brewery’s offering I ought to paint next and on the quality of various brews. When it reaches 100, I will perform a bit of Photoshop magic to linethem up and put them on (but not up against) the wall.
Description: “Here, on a hellishly ancient table-land fully twenty thousand feet high, and in a climate deadly to habitation since a pre-human age not less than five hundred thousand years ago, there stretched nearly to the vision’s limit a tangle of orderly stone which only the desperation of mental self-defense could possibly attribute to any but a conscious and artificial cause.”
Description: Reggie and the Full Effect is the solo music project of American musician James Dewees. Best known as the keyboardist for emo legends The Get Up Kids and former drummer for Coalesce, Dewees writes and records all instrumentation himself. The project blends catchy synth-pop, post-hardcore, and pop-punk with comedy skits and fictional characters, such as the mustachioed frontman Paco or members of the Finnish metal band Common Denominator.
Description: Gossamer is the oldest of the coven, grown from a spore that drifted down before the Mirewood had a name. The younger mushrooms came to him slowly, the way moss finds stone, until one day the whole coven simply followed his quiet. He rarely speaks. His mane hangs in pale graceful strands, soft as falling water, and most who meet him mistake that softness for weakness. They do not see the magic coiled beneath, older than the trees, patient as root rot. When the coven is threatened Gosmyr lifts his head, and the strands that looked so gentle move with a will of their own. Those who witness it rarely speak of what they saw. The coven does not need him to raise his voice. They have all felt the weight of what waits under the calm.
