Time Space Socks
Description: The Twelfth Doctor is an anomaly. We call him the 12th Doctor, but he's the 13th version of the Doctor. Also, Time Lord biology only allows them to regenerate 12 times, but he was technically the 13th regeneration. (The 10th Doctor regenerated twice and the War Doctor was a secret regeneration. The numbers are all off, but we Whovians accept it because it fits in with the Timey Whimy absurdities of the show.) The Doctor should have died of old age at the end of the 11th Doctor's run when he spent a thousand years on Trensalore. But the Time Lords intervened, using a crack in the universe from the bubble universe that they're trapped in, and granted the Doctor another regeneration cycle, which they can do because this is a show about tim...
Description: Peter Davison was the fifth Doctor. Since his predecessor, Tom Baker, was the Doctor for eight years, the fifth Doctor was developed almost in absolute contrast to the fourth Doctor. He was more cautious, more serious, younger and less eccentric. He wore a Cricket uniform. If you're not familiar with Cricket, it has a very preppy, trim look to it, like something you'd see at a private Country Club. The only eccentric part of his wardrobe was the celery that he pinned to his lapel, but even that had a purpose, as he claimed that it would turn purple in the presence of certain poisonous gases. Peter Davison, when cast, was just 29, making him the Matt Smith of his day. In 2007, he returned to the role for a mini-episode when his Tardis...
Description: David Tennant wasn't the first Scottish actor to be the Doctor. And Peter Capaldi wasn't the first Scot to play the role with a Scottish accent. These honors go to Sylvester McCoy. He was the Doctor from 1987 to the shows cancellation in 1989 after 26 seasons, though technically he was the Doctor until 1996 when he appeared briefly at the beginning of the Doctor Who TV movie before regenerating into the 8th Doctor, Paul McGann. As I've argued before, the cancellation shouldn't be blamed on the 7th Doctor. He was brought in only after the ship already hit the iceberg, so to speak. Of the classic Doctors, he's generally the most entertaining and most interesting, in my opinion. He was a whimsical, funny, unassuming showman, and often playe...
