Description: This hand-carved block print of a frog is based off a woodblock print from the Edo era in Japan. Teisai Hokuba created the original, much larger woodblock depicting animals at a party. I isolated a small portion of the image showing just the frog and what looks to be a sake bottle and recreated it as a block carving which I then printed before scanning.

This artwork is one of the "Three Masterpieces" of the Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji series, alongside "The Great Wave off Kanagawa and South Wind, Clear Sky (also as known as Fine Wind, Clear Morning and Red Fuji)." Description: This evocative illustration features a noble wolf profile rendered through a modern double exposure technique in the style of traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e ink art. The silhouette of the wolf’s head and neck is formed by a dense, misty evergreen forest, where the jagged shapes of pine trees serve as the wolf's fur and features. Using a minimalist monochrome palette of deep black ink on a textured, neutral grey background, the piece utilizes atmospheric "bleeding" ink effects to create a sense of mystery and spiritual depth. This artwork harmoniously blends the ferocity of the wild predator with the quiet stillness of the ancient forest, echoing the reverence for nature found in classical Japanese woodblock prints.
