Description: Rock Cairns, Sculptures Cairns are man-made rock piles that are used for navigational purposes in hiking. Rock cairns are human-made stacks, mounds or piles of rocks. They take different forms, and have been built by cultures around the world. Cairns in the simplest form are stacked rocks with a meaning or purpose. For outdoor adventure junkies, the purpose is generally navigational, as they mark the route of a trail. By Paul Thompson Photography
