Apollo 7 circumnavigated Earth, Apollo 8 looped around the moon, Apollo's 9 & 10 tested the docking manouveres and lunar module in space. Apollo 11 was the first manned moon landing. Apollo 13 Nasa's third attempt to land a man on the moon had to be aborted when the oxygen tanks in the service module exploded leaving the craft stranded in space. The incident was reported to Mission Control with the understated phrase: "Houston, We Have A Problem". The astronauts relocated into the Lunar Module, looped around the moon and then used the thrusters from the lunar module (intended only to descend to the moons surface), to bring them back home. Apollo 7 was a human spaceflight mission carried out by USA in October 1968 during the time of the space race. It was the first mission in the Apollo program to carry a crew into space and orbit earth. Even though it didn't actually fly to the moon, it was the important predecessor and led the way for Apollo 8, the first manned moon orbit space flight.

This flight was the first successful launch with men aboard the Saturn 1B rocket.

The name Apollo 1 was formally assigned to the mission in the spring of 1967 in memory of the astronauts who lost their lives.

Apollo 9 preformed the first two successful rendezvous and docking with the Command and Service Module (CSM) and Lunar Module (LM).

Apollo / Nasa Mission Flight Patch - In Memorium. The crew of Apollo 1 were burned to death during training when the oxygen in their command module simulater ignited. The mission flight patch was allocated posthumously in memory of the tragic incident. (see more designs like this in The Blue Box)

Apollo 13 is a 1995 American space docudrama film directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Ed Harris and Gary Sinise. The screenplay dramatizes the aborted 1970 Apollo 13 lunar mission and is an adaptation of the 1994 book Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13. The film depicts astronauts Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise aboard Apollo 13 for America's fifth crewed mission to the Moon, which was intended to be the third to land. En route, an on-board explosion deprives their spacecraft of much of its oxygen supply and electrical power, which forces NASA's flight controllers to abort the Moon landing and turns the mission into a struggle to get the three men home safely.

The Artemis program is a US government-funded human spaceflight program that has the goal of landing "the first woman and the next man" on the Moon, specifically at the lunar south pole region by 2024. The program is carried out predominantly by NASA, U.S. commercial spaceflight companies contracted by NASA, and international partners. NASA is leading the program, but expects international partnerships to play a key role in advancing Artemis as the next step towards the long-term goal of establishing a sustainable presence on the Moon, laying the foundation for private companies to build a lunar economy, and eventually sending humans to Mars.
