Commander Neil Armstrong and pilot Buzz Aldrin, landed the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle on July 20. Armstrong became the first person to step onto the moon 6 hours later on July 21. They spent 21 hours on the lunar surface before returning to Columbia for the return to Earth.
