Bread Tapestries
Description: Sunbeam Bread was originally produced by Davidson Baking Company, which was founded in 1914 by Eugene F. Davidson, with the products being sold as Davidson’s Ideal Bread. The Sunbeam label was launched in 1942 and introduced America to their adorable mascot, Little Miss Sunbeam, who frequently said "let's be friends" in advertising and promotional materials. Little Miss Sunbeam was such a hit with consumers and became so well recognized that the Davidson Baking Company was often referred to as the Sunbeam Bakery, though no such entity ever existed.
Description: For a good part of the last century, Gai's Northwest Bakeries was Seattle's largest baker, supplying high-end restaurants and fast-food chains alike, as well as area grocery stores. Founded by Italian immigrant Giglio Gai in 1932, he built the business from the ground up, but his sons Phil and Henry turned it into a powerhouse. The brother's in cartoon form appeared on all of Gai's delivery trucks and in advertising, but what most Seattleites didn't know was that the cartoons depicted the Gai brothers themselves. The taller one with spectacles and chef hat was Henry, known as Mr. Inside. His shorter dark-haired companion was his brother, Phil, known as Mr. Outside. This design is based on promotional buttons kids would receive when touring
Description: The Bread and Roses Strike of 1911 is an inspirational piece of labor history in the USA. The phrase "Bread and Roses" was used from the suffregette and labor movements of the early 1900's and represents the fight for not only enough compensation to survive on but also to have rest, recreation, and opportunities to grow in life.
