What's the deal with Grants Pass and cavemen? Excellent question! When State Road 46 was built to access the Oregon Caves National Monument in the 1920s, Grants Pass was the closest town and local businessmen decided to form a "Caveman Club" to capitalize on the caves and promote their town. They dressed the part and became notorious for their antics and popular entertainment for locals and tourists alike. Fast forward to 1971 and the Cavemen Club raised $10k to have an imposing 16' Caveman statue built and he has been standing watch over in Grants Pass ever since. The more you know*

In 1906 the first "W. T. Grant Co. 25 Cent Store" opened in Lynn, Massachusetts. Modest profit, coupled with a fast turnover of inventory, allowed the stores to grow to almost $100 million annual sales by 1936. By the time Grant died in 1972 at age 96, his chain of W. T. Grant Stores had grown to almost 1,200. At the company's end, headquarters were atop One Astor Plaza, a prominent building of New York City's skyline on Times Square. Grant's stores were slower than others to adapt to the growth of the suburbs and the change in shopping habits that this entailed, and the attempt to correct this was belated. W. T. Grant's bankruptcy in 1976, which was the then-second biggest in US history.

Bunny's Motel first opened their doors in 1957 in Grants Pass, Oregon, serving the traveling public who were increasingly exploring the country in the decade following WWII's end. While information on who Bunny was is lost to the sands of time, her motel lives in, albeit as apartments today, though her iconic bunny sign still stands tall and may very well be the single most photographed objet d'art in Grants Pass.

Located on Highway 66 in St. Louis, Missouri, Grant's Cabin Restaurant took its name from the landmark cabin Ulysses S. Grant built in St. Louis in 1856. Unlike 'Hardscrabble,' as Grant named his cabin, Grant's Cabin Restaurant was far from the rough-hewn style of its namesake. Despite their ample use of a Ulysses S. Grant cartoon mascot, the restaurant was actually a rather nice, upscale establishment with a separate bar for those who just wanted a nice cocktail instead of a meal fit for a general.
