While their previous offerings had primarily been road going cycles and scooters, in 1968 they threw their hat into the popular motocross segment with an all new competition dirt bike. Although their 125 MX model was designed for motocross racing, the bike proved to be readily adaptable and an ideal trail bike for the enthusiastic novice. They quickly followed the success of their 125 MX with a larger 250 model, and between the two, Sachs began winning off-road races, much to the surprise of many.
