Description: Oseikrom is a popular name associated with the Ashanti Region and especially Kumasi. The name means “Osei’s Town” or “Osei’s City,” in honor of Otumfuo Osei Tutu I, the first Asantehene who unified the Ashanti states and founded the Ashanti Empire in the late 17th century. Under the leadership of Osei Tutu I, Kumasi became the capital of the Ashanti Kingdom and the spiritual home of the sacred Sikadwa Kofi. Because of his influence and legacy, the region and its capital became widely associated with his name, giving rise to the nickname “Oseikrom.”
