Description: This is an image of The Sanctuary of Christ the King (Santuário de Cristo Rei), a Catholic monument and shrine dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ overlooking the city of Lisbon. It is located on top of an isolated hill in the Almada district about 135 m above the sea and overlooking the Tagus River left bank. It was inspired by the Christ the Redeemer statue of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The project was inaugurated in May 1959. The giant cement statue was erected to express gratitude because the Portuguese were spared the effects of World War II. Description: Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge Using leading lines from the white art structure (which is located at the Corpus Christi aquarium) guides the eye to the Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge which spans the ship channel that connects to the Gulf of Mexico. The harbor bridge over the ship channel is often described as having a distinctive Napoléon hat-style look; the metal bowstring bridge was built in the 1950s. Work is underway to replace it with a taller, wider and modern cable-stayed bridge.
