Description: The mission of the 18th Medical Command (Deployment Support) is to command and control assigned and attached medical units to provide comprehensive and flexible Army Health System Support (AHSS) throughout the US Army Pacific (USARPAC) and across the full spectrum of operations. The 18th Medical Command is the Medical Pacific Theatre Enabling Command (TEC) that provides the Command and Control, as well as medical expertise for the Army's response to a wide variety of medical emergencies or humanitarian efforts. The 18th Medical Command is headquartered at Fort Shafter, Hawaii.

In the immediate emergency following Pearl Harbor, the United States had hurriedly sent a task force to defend New Caledonia against a feared Japanese attack. This division was the only division formed outside of United States territory during World War II (a distinction it would repeat when reformed during the Vietnam War). At the suggestion of a subordinate, the division's commander, Major General Alexander Patch, requested that the new unit be known as the Americal Division—the name being a contraction of "American, New Caledonian Division". Description: The 26th Engineer Battalion (Combat) was constituted as a unit of the Regular Army on December 1, 1954 and on December 2, 1954 was activated as an element of the 23rd Infantry Division at Fort Clayton, Canal Zone. At that time, the Battalion was composed of Company A which was organized February 1, 1945 as the 2920th Dump Truck Company, Company B and Headquarters Company, the initial organization for each, and Company C which was organized on April 7, 1944 as the 406th Engineer Combat Company. The 26th Engineer Battalion (Combat) was inactivated on April 10, 1956.
