Description: St. Anthony’s Bakery was founded in 1971 in the heart of Brooklyn and churned out traditional breads and baked goods for just over fifty years before the owners decided to hang up their aprons. Four decades before it was St. Anthony’s, the 6819 Fort Hamilton Pkwy. address had hosted a bakery under a different name, which may have been part of the latter tenant's secret recipe. The original bakery installed a coal-fired oven, which was quite common back in the day, but exceptionally rare in a modern-day bakery. Some say this gave their baked goods a different taste and texture, but whatever the case, restaurants all over the greater NYC area and locals alike continued to call on St. Anthony’s up until their last day.
